Bursary Scheme

At PR Academy we believe that professional qualifications are an important way for public relations to achieve the status that it deserves.  However, we know that it can sometimes be hard to fund study but we believe that this shouldn’t be a barrier to professional development.

The PR Academy bursary is designed to help those who are keen to achieve a professional qualification in Public Relations but are unable to fund the full cost.

PR Academy will award a bursary of £800 towards tuition fees for its face to face CIPR Advanced Certificate or diploma course.  The bursary can be used for any course starting within 12 months of the date of the award.

How to apply

Eligibility

Candidates should be working in public relations.   Applications are welcome from overseas candidates. Candidates should meet the CIPR eligibility criteria for their chosen qualification. This is set out on the CIPR website.

Application process

Applicants must provide:

  • A comprehensive CV
  • Proof that they are presently working in PR (e.g. an appointment letter or letter from employer)
  • A written submission of no more than 500 words saying why they believe that a professional qualification is important for PR
  • A covering letter that explains how they feel they would benefit from the bursary (no more than 200 words).
  • A signed statement confirming that funding is not available from an employer

Selection

The selection panel will comprise the Directors of PR Academy and a representative from PR practice.  The members of the panel may change over time and we will let you know the make up of the panel.

The panel’s decision is final and no discussion will be entered into, although you will be provided with feedback on your application.

Panel members will look for the following:

  • Evidence of ability to apply oneself to study
  • Enthusiasm for PR
  • Commitment to the professional status of PR
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • The case put forward for receipt of the bursary

Conditions

The funds are only available as a contribution towards study with PR Academy.

Successful candidates will receive the same resources and support that PR Academy offers to other students on the chosen course.  This includes the core text book and access to Questia, the online library service.

The course must be started within 12 months of the award being confirmed. Two diploma classes start in autumn each year.  One Advanced Certificate class starts in the autumn and another in January/February.  The number of courses and start dates may vary.  Should for any reason the course selected by the candidate not run, the bursary award can be held over until the next academic year. No cash alternative is available.

Applicants should be willing to take part in media relations or other promotional activity initiated by PR Academy or the CIPR.

At the end of the course of study, successful applicants should provide a short report of 500 words that discusses how they benefited from the course. This may be used to promote the bursary scheme and the qualifications generally.

Key dates

Applications should be received by 31 July each year.  Successful candidates will be advised towards the end of August.

PR Academy reserves the right to change these dates, but any change will always be posted here on the website.

Applications and any queries should be emailed to : info@pracademy.co.uk
